bird flu, Avian fluA new case of the deadly H5N1 strain of avian ('bird') flu was confirmed on the Norfolk-Suffolk border coinciding with the announcement by GV Health that they have won the contract to supply the UK's National Health Service (NHS) with Infection Containment Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits.

The highly pathogenic H5N1 avian or bird flu virus has been moving across Eurasia and has so far killed over 200 people. To date the virus has been spread through poultry but the fear is that it could jump to human transmission. The most recent outbreak is the second occurrence of the virus in poultry in the UK.

GV Health Infection Containment PPE kits have been developed following extensive research undertaken in conjunction with several NHS Hospital Trusts. They offer an innovative new approach to infection containment. Kits are focused on individual user needs and include virucidal and bactericidal infection control agents in addition to effective and safe means of disposal for infected used items.

NHS Supply Chain, the principal organisation to supply the UK's NHS hospitals and clinics recently awarded GV Health the contract to supply Infection Containment PPE kits, following a strict evaluation procedure. The award means that GV Health Infection Containment PPE kits now ensure the country's top emergency response teams are fully prepared with the most up-to-date and high quality PPE.

Infection Containment Kits address the needs of all emergency response teams working near major infection outbreaks such as bird flu for immediate access to specialised, high quality personal protective equipment (PPE) and virus control agents. "Infection control specialists, medical, nursing, ambulance, cleaning and other staff in hospitals, clinics and laboratories, as well as police and security staff guarding infected sites, must be ready to respond to acute infection emergencies without delay" says Catherine Pegna, GV Health's Director of Business Development.

Pegna continues: "To do this safely and effectively they need priority access to top quality personal protective equipment. The kit keeps essential PPE ready and waiting so precious time is not lost in the early stages of an emergency situation sourcing equipment and getting it to the right places. Key staff can get on doing the job they have been trained for."

The same kits supplied to the NHS are available for purchase direct from GV Health. This means that all types of organisation and individuals can have confidence they are using the best quality infection control PPE.
