Regulations introduced in 2009 in the UK require UN 3291 type clinical waste to be transported to incineration or alternative treatment centres for processing and disposal in approved bags and containers.
Key requirements of the legislation are:
- All clinical waste transported in bulk to alternative treatment and incineration sites must be carried in approved containers.
- All plastic waste bags used for this purpose must be sealed, leak proof and tested for solids of packing group II.
- Contents should not exceed 30KG.
- Markings must be in accordance with the regulations and provide a visual confirmation that bags have passed tests for bulk transport as defined in the current RID/ADR and IMDG code requirements.
Testing & Approval
