GHS & CLP Regulations

From 1st June 2015 chemical substances and mixtures must be classified according to CLP and supplied with CLP compliant labelling and materials safety data sheets, commonly known as MSDS, Safety Data Sheets (SDS) or CoSHH sheets.

All GV Health products have been updated to meet the new requirements. Products carrying old style labels may still be available in the distribution and end user stream for a time. Datasheets for both the old and new classification schemes will continue to be available until 1st June 2017, when all products in use must be labelled according to CLP.

CLP Regulations

The classification, labelling and packaging (CLP) of hazardous chemicals is based on the Globally Harmonised System (GHS), agreed in the UN. The main purpose of the new regulations are:

  • to ensure a high level of protection of health and the environment
  • to provide clear information about chemical hazards to users through a globally standardised labelling system and information sheets
  • to facilitate the free movement of substances, mixtures and articles

What Changes Will Take Place?

CLP Regulations are very similar to the EU labelling System and the classification, labelling and packaging responsibilities placed on suppliers are very similar, although some classifications are changing. The most noticable change will be the introduction of a new set of international hazard pictograms. These are shown above in the main image on this article.

Materials Safety Data Sheets

Materials Safety Data Sheets on the GV Health website are changing in line with the new classification and labelling scheme. If you require MSDSs for existing stock displaying the old classifications and pictograms please email your request to sales@gvhealth.com.
